Welcome to Split Circle, the Android-based expense tracking application designed to help you manage shared costs within groups. Your privacy is important to us. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our app.

To provide our expense tracking and group synchronization services, Split Circle collects the following types of information:

Account Information: When you sign in (e.g., via Google Sign-In), we collect your basic profile information to identify you across devices and manage your session.
Financial Data: Information you input, such as expense amounts, descriptions, categories, and settlement details between group members.
Group & Member Data: Data related to groups you create, such as group names and the member lists associated with those groups.
Device Information: Technical data such as device model, OS version, and unique identifiers for crash reporting and app performance.

2. How We Use Your Information

Your information is used to provide a seamless and collaborative expense tracking experience:

To synchronize expenses and group data across multiple devices using cloud storage.
To authenticate your user session and maintain your secure profile.
To send real-time notifications about group activity via Firebase Cloud Messaging.
To display relevant advertisements and maintain the app via AdMob.
To monitor app stability and fix bugs via crash reporting services.

3. Data Storage & Cloud Services

Split Circle uses a hybrid storage approach to ensure performance and reliability:

Local Storage: We use the Room Persistence Library to cache data locally on your device for offline access.
Cloud Storage (Firestore): We utilize Google Cloud Firestore to securely store and synchronize your group expenses and member data in the cloud. This allows you to collaborate with others in real-time and access your data from any device.

Data stored in Firestore is encrypted at rest and in transit using Google's secure infrastructure.

4. Third-Party Services

We integrate with the following services provided by Google and Firebase:

Google Sign-In: For secure authentication.
Cloud Firestore: For real-time data synchronization and persistent cloud storage.
Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM): To deliver push notifications.
AdMob: To serve advertisements. AdMob may use device identifiers to personalize your ad experience.
Firebase Analytics & Crashlytics: To collect anonymous usage statistics and technical crash logs.

5. Data Retention & Deletion

We retain your data as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with the Split Circle services. If you wish to delete your account or data stored in Firestore, you can do so through the app settings or by contacting us.

6. Children's Privacy

Split Circle is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we discover a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, we will immediately delete it from our servers.

7. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will notify you of any major changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page.
